Kamehaema Butterfly

This specie is considered among one of the most beautiful butterflies found in America. Biologically known as Vanessa tamemea is one of the two species which belong to Hawaii and is known as Udara Blackburni. In the year of 2009, it was given the title of the state butterfly of Hawaii Islands. The unusual name was given to the specie because it seemed as if the butterflies undulate in the air or an animal which floats in the air. It is also called Lepelepe-o-hina, which is also a word from Hawaiian Language, but today it is used to describe the features of the Monarch Butterfly. The ones who should get credit for this are the students who used to study in fifth grade, Robyn-Ashley Amano, Ryan Asuka, Jennifer Loui, Toshiro Yanai, Kristi Kimura, and Jenna Yanke. They put forward the name of the butterfly as a part of the project for gifted and talented. The caterpillars of this specie feed on the leaves of the plants belonging to the Urticacea family. It’s quite unusual name is because it was named after the royal house of Kamehameha, when the last king from this lineage, Kamehameha V died in 1872, the year when this butterfly was described and listed. There are differences in the Hawaiian language their difference in transcription happens. Till now, thankfully it is not an endangered species. But still, care is taken to conserve its habitats and let these beautiful creatures live in peace and flourish. they are truly very beautiful.
